Japan Exchange Group (JPX), comprising Tokyo Stock Exchange (TSE) and Osaka Securities Exchange (OSE), is the world’s third largest stock exchange by market capitalization after New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ, according to the World Federation of Exchanges’ monthly report in November 2015. On June 9, 2016, ABS members who chose to take a course named “Financial Markets in Asia” at Waseda University had the privilege to visit TSE, the largest stock exchange in Asia along with other classmates. Our members were really excited for the visit and it was indeed a great experience.

Not only did our members had the chance to visit TSE, but we also had an experienced guide who introduced the history of the Japanese stock market including the major historical events such as the merger of Tokyo Stock Exchange and Osaka Stock Exchange. The guide brought us to the trading floor and it was very eye-opening to really be at the center of a huge financial market.

Before their departure, our members had a very fruitful Q&A session with the staff of TSE regarding the details of the Japanese financial market and its positioning in the competitive world market nowadays.
